Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky invited the management of the American social network Facebook to consider the possibility of opening a company office in Ukraine.

According to the head of state’s press service, Zelensky held a video conference with the company’s COO, Sheryl Sandberg, and vice president Nick Clegg and invited Facebook representatives to visit the Diia. Summit Forum, to be held in Kiev on November 29.

“It would be a serious support for the digital direction in Ukraine. We are convinced that we will be the first in Europe to implement all digital services. Your arrival would be a very good signal”, underlined the president.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov, who was present at the talks, noted that “Volodymyr Zelensky’s presidential campaign was the most technologically advanced in the world, and Facebook and Instagram were the main channels of communication during this campaign”.

According to COO Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook is committed to providing the best service and support to Ukrainian users. This is reflected in various actions of the company, including the recent launch of Facebook AMBER Alert in Ukraine, and they hope to strengthen this cooperation in the future, she said.

The videoconference participants also discussed the opening of Facebook’s R&D center in Ukraine.

In addition, Zelensky acquainted the representatives of Facebook with the main achievements of Ukraine in the implementation of digitization and the steps towards improving the tax and legal regime of IT companies.
