New Delhi, January 4 (IANS): The income tax department on Tuesday conducted searches of the premises and office of a businessman in Agra whose company, Nuova, manufactures shoes.

The team raided the Agra-based office of Nuova Shoes, which is owned by Harsimran Singh Alag aka Mannu.

RCKK is the parent company of the Nuova footwear unit, which deals with the export of footwear. It is a leading shoe exporting company established in 1964 with a large trading network all over India.

The IT team began raiding the premises of Ajay Chaudhary, a builder of the ACE group. Later, another team carried out raids at several locations in Agra.

The IT claimed that the company had hidden transactions in London to avoid tax and thus committed tax evasion.

“The company did business in London. But they hid the transaction to avoid tax. They are accused of tax evasion. We are looking for digital data and balance sheets,” a source said.

The Nuova shoe also has an office in Sector 83 of Noida, which was also reportedly raided by the IT team.

The IT team has indicated that it will be recording testimony from the company’s accountants.

The team said they wanted information on a few suspicious business transactions. They will also verify the company’s ledger accounts.

So far, the IT team hasn’t arrested anyone on this matter.

“The raids are continuing and once completed we will be able to comment on the matter,” the IT team said.
